If you have been following the course catalog as it is designed, you have successfully registered your domain, signed up with Bluehost and installed WordPress onto your site. Good Job!
Moving right along, next we will focus on installing a WordPress theme.
In today’s tutorial, I will share:
- What are themes
- What is the difference between a Free Theme and Premium
- How to filter through available themes
- How to install the “Spacious” WordPress theme
- To follow the theme documentation instructions to get optimal results
- How to add Media
- How to transition our website to a live site
Don’t forget, if you have questions, head over to the Facebook group page and share with everyone.
Let’s get started!
In this recording, I will be covering all of the tutorial topics disclosed above. If you plan on only taking notes, that is fine. However, if you want to implement the site as I am, I would encourage you to take your time and follow each step. Our sites will look slightly different in the end based on the content and images that will be adding.
Image uploads and Designs
In this tutorial, I briefly cover how to upload media (images). However, I didn’t mention how I created most of my media. I use Photoshop to create the sliders in the theme, as well as the logos. I would recommend, you use photoshop or any other image resizing software to accurately size your images. After you have the size you want, you should then upload them. By uploading an image, then resizing them using the WordPress software, you could potentially slow your site down. If you need help using Photoshop, I would recommend googling a few video tutorials on Youtube or pose the question in our Facebook Group.
I also discuss the need to create a Logo in this tutorial. Designing a logo may take some time if you don’t already have one. I offer my services if you aren’t design savvy, to put together a logo for you. If you’re interested, you can access my landing page to get more information.
